Three’s company

When Lane Kiffin took over as the new football coach following Pete Carroll’s departure, he brought along his father, Monte Kiffin, to serve as the team’s defensive coordinator.

Now, he has decided that he wants his younger brother on the sidelines as well.

Chris Kiffin, 28, .

“The No. 1 thing for me was going to work for my father. That’s what made it an easy decision for me,” Kiffin told the Los Angeles Times.

This will not be Kiffin’s first experience with the Trojan football team. When he was in college, and his older brother was on the USC coaching staff under Carroll, Chris Kiffin spent summers with the team and worked out with Reggie Bush and Matt Leinart. He also had the opportunity to attend staff meetings and film sessions.

Last season, Kiffin was an offensive intern for the University of Nebraska football team under coach Bo Pelini.

“Obviously, leaving Nebraska is the tough part, because it’s been so great here. Working for Coach Pelini has been so great,” Kiffin told the Lincoln Journal Star.

Kiffin’s father also has ties to the Nebraska team, as he played and lettered there from 1961 to 1963 and also served as an assistant coach from 1966 to 1976.

Chris played four years of college football at Colorado State, where he was a defensive tackle.

USC officials did not confirm that Chris Kiffin was hired.
